A denture or complete denture, is an appliance that is inserted in the mouth and replaces natural teeth and provides support for the cheeks and lips.
When a patient no longer has any teeth, complete dentures are the traditional method to restore function and appearance. Many patients experience difficulty wearing conventional dentures because of poor stability and decreased chewing function. The use of dental implants to improve the stability and retention of dentures to allow for a more secure fit is becoming popular.

Dentures can be fabricated in two different ways and stages:

People sometimes need time to get used to the feel of their new dentures, we will help you through this transition time. Dentures will wear and will need to be replaced or relined in order to keep the jaw alignment normal over time. The alignment slowly changes as the bone and gum ridges recede or shrink due to the extraction of the teeth. Regular examinations at least once a year are still important for the denture wearer so that the oral tissues can be checked for disease or change, and the denture can be checked for fit.

Removable Partial Dentures
When there are multiple missing teeth, a removable partial denture can be used to replace them. These restorations typically are made of a metal framework and a plastic base(acrylic) with teeth. They must be removed for daily cleaning and at night.

If missing teeth are not replaced, problems with the bite and surrounding teeth can happen. Teeth may move out of alignment to try and fill in the space left by the missing teeth. Speech and chewing power could be compromised. Gaps left by missing teeth can also detract from your appearance. Most often attached with metal clasps, removable partials are easy to clean. They also can improve your ability to speak and eat while also enhancing your appearance. Your remaining natural teeth provide the support and stability for your partials.
