Before anyone looks in your mouth, we want to know who you are. That means going through your medical history, any medications you're taking, and any health conditions that might be relevant to your dental care. It sounds like paperwork, but it matters. Your overall health and your oral health are more connected than most people realize.

Then comes the part that doesn't happen at enough dental offices: we ask what you're looking for.

Not just "does anything hurt." Not just "when was your last cleaning." We want to understand what you actually want from your dental care. What your goals are. What's been bothering you, even if you've never said it out loud. What you'd change about your smile if you could.

As Dr. Sergio puts it: "If we don't get to know what the patient is looking for, we really cannot help. I can do a filling and your tooth is healthy now, but that's not really caring. I need to know what overall experience you'd like."

That conversation shapes everything that follows.

What we're actually looking at

Once we have that context, we move into the clinical part of the visit. Here's what that covers:

Your tooth health. We check for cavities, cracks, old fillings that may need attention, and any signs of infection. Some of this is visible to the eye. Some of it shows up on X-rays, which we take as part of the visit.

Your gum health. Healthy gums are the foundation of everything else. We check the tissue, the bone underneath, and any signs of gum disease, again both visually and through the X-rays.

Your bite and alignment. This one gets overlooked more than it should. How your teeth come together affects how they wear over time, how comfortable your jaw feels, and what your options are for future treatment. We look at this on every first visit because it gives us a picture of where things are headed, not just where they are right now.

An intraoral scan. This is a short video of the inside of your mouth that lets us show you what we're seeing in real time. Not described. Not translated into clinical language. Actually shown to you, so you leave understanding your own mouth better than you did when you came in.

What you leave with

By the end of the visit, you'll have a clear picture of your overall oral health: what's in good shape, what needs attention, and what your options are. No vague recommendations. No pressure. Just an honest assessment and a conversation about what makes sense for you.

Some patients come in thinking everything is fine and find out there's something small to address. Some come in convinced something is wrong and leave relieved. Either way, you leave knowing exactly where you stand.
